I Want You to Know...

The library has an additional version of WorldCat.org called WorldCat Local. This version of WorldCat places CTU's library holdings at the top of the search results. A link to order items through interlibrary loan is also available for books in I-Share libraries. To try out WorldCat Local, visit ctulibrary.worldcat.org. On campus users of WorldCat.org also have the option to choose WorldCat Local.

I Want You to Know...

The library is testing a federated search engine that will allow you to search the content of all of our electronic books at the same time. This search is available at this link: http://wfxsearch.webfeat.org/wfsearch/search?cid=11091. The search is also available on the library's toolbar, which can be downloaded at the library's home page at http://www.ctu.lib.il.us/.

I Want You to Know...

The library will be conducting two walk-in workshops in February. The new library resources workshop will give a brief overview of some of the resources the library has added over the past year, such as JSTOR, online encyclopedias, eHRAF World Cultures, SFX, and more. The introduction to library resources for health sciences workshop will give an overview of areas in the health sciences that have interdisciplinary applications, including psychology and public health, and which are of interest to the CTU community. Walk-ins are welcome, but we invite you to sign up at the library front desk so that we will know how many people to expect.

I Want You to Know...

The library has added the Encyclopedia Britannica to its collection of online resources. In addition to the encyclopedia, Britannica Online includes a collection of classics of Western literature, a "this day in history" feature, and a biography of the day. Go to http://www.ctu.lib.il.us/find-books-and-other-materials and click on Britannica Online to try it out.

I Want You to Know...

The library has added a new database of electronic documents called eHRAF World Cultures. This database is a cross-cultural database that contains information on all aspects of cultural and social life. The annually growing eHRAF database is unique in that the information is organized by cultures and ethnic groups and the full-text documents are subject-indexed at the paragraph level. Check out this new database on the library's web page for electronic books and reference works at http://www.ctu.lib.il.us/find-books-and-other-materials.

I Want You to Know...

ATLASerials and CPLI do not have much overlap. American Theological Library Association and Catholic Library Association (the people that create CPLI) have an agreement that they will not index the same journals, so only the few that were duplicated in the past are in both. ATLASerials indexes only a handful of Catholic journals, so if you are trying to do a comprehensive search or one that provides a Catholic viewpoint, you should search both databases. You can search both databases at the same time! Ask me how!
