Monday-Friday: 9am-4pm
February 8-9: Closed

Library Christmas Break Hours

The library will be observing semester break hours during the week, and will be closed on the weekends. The library hours over the break are as follows:

Library Sponsored Movie Night Tuesday, October 29th

All are invited to attend the library’s film screening on Tuesday, October 29th at 7p.m in Room 504. The Colors of the Mountain is in Spanish with English subtitles - this film was the winner of the New Directors Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. A brief discussion time will follow.

A live stream of the Catholic Archives in the Digital Age conference will take place from 9am to 3:30pm on Wednesday, October 9th. This event is co-sponsored by the Catholic University of America and the University of Notre Dame, and is aimed at anyone who is interested in Catholic Studies in the United States.

Brown Bag Workshop for Zotero on September 26th at Noon

A library workshop on Zotero will take place on Thursday, September 26th from noon to 1pm in Room 504. Zotero is a citation and bibliographic management system that allows you to save, edit and manage citations, as well as take notes for your research. The workshop will cover the basics of installing the Zotero add-on for your Firefox browser, how to add items to your Zotero library, and how to insert citations and bibliographies into your papers using Zotero. You are welcome to bring your lunch, and your laptop, if you wish; please install the Firefox browser on your laptop before attending the workshop.

Library Adds Historical Statistics of the United States Online to Collection

The library now has access to the Historical Statistics of the United States through the CARLI consortium. This online resource includes statistical information on social, economic and political conditions in the United States.

Library Workshop on E-Books on September 12th

A brown bag workshop on E-books will take place on Thursday, September 12th from noon to 1pm in Room 304. Please bring your lunch and your laptop or mobile device, if you wish. We will be exploring the library's many e-book collections and discuss how you can make the most of both the library's collections as well as free e-book collections online.

Humanities and Social Sciences E-Books Added to Library Collection

Two new online resources are available for CTU library patrons. The ACLS Humanities e-book collection includes over 3700 books. The Sage E-Reference collection can be used to search reference e-books for articles in the areas of history, education and the social sciences.

CTU Catalogs Digitized Through CARLI and the Internet Archive

The library has recently digitized CTU's course catalogs, the Announcements, making previous course descriptions and information about CTU's educational programs available online. Catalogs from the Chicago Cluster of Theological Schools and the Association of Chicago Theological Schools are also available.

Library Adds Two New Alexander Street Press Collections to Resources

The CARLI consortium has made two additional Alexander Street Press collections available for its governing member libraries. These include Black Thought and Culture, a collection of major non-fiction works by African-Americans, and Women and Social Movements in the United States, a collection of primary source documents.

Rare Books from CTU Library on Display at the Newberry

The Newberry Library is presenting an exhibit of rare books entitled Treasures of Faith: Twenty Years of Acquisitions until Saturday, July 6th, 2013. The exhibit includes acquisitions from local institutions, such as Mundelein College and McCormick Theological Seminary, as well as Catholic Theological Union. Several items in the exhibit were donated by CTU, and the donated titles in the Newberry collection can be searched in the I-Share catalog.

Library Adds Alexander Street Videos to Collection

As a benefit of the library's membership in CARLI, the library has obtained six streaming video collections from Alexander Street Press. These include: Black Studies in Video, Ethnographic Video Online - Volumes I and II, Filmakers Library Online, Health and Society in Video, and World History in Video.

These collections were selected to support the curriculum of CTU generally, and also to provide additional access to multicultural and ethnographic materials. Since these collections consist of streaming video, the individual videos cannot be downloaded, but individuals can build playlists of videos they would like collect for later viewing. Many videos also includes transcripts of their content.

Passionist Periodicals Digitized on Internet Archive

The library's latest book digitization proposal for the CARLI Book Digitization Initiative is now available on the library's Internet Archive page. The complete run of the Passionist Bulletin from the Holy Cross Province is available, as well as another periodical from the St. Paul of the Cross Province, Verbum Crucis. One volume of the Sign is also available, published by the Passionists.
