Trial Available for Cambridge Companions Online

Cambridge Companions Online includes Cambridge Companions in the areas of philosophy, religion and culture. The Cambridge Companions are collections of essays on particular topics or on particular individuals. The trial is available through March 7th.

Updates Added to Oxford Islamic Studies Online

Both primary source documents and article updates have been added to Oxford Islamic Studies Online. Twenty new primary source documents have been added, such as an excerpt from The Alchemy of Happiness, titled 'The Knowledge of Self' (c. 1100), as well as the 'Prologue to the Sair ul Ibad ilal Maad' (c. 1111). Updates on Southeast Asia include, 'Muslim Women's Issues and Groups in Cambodia', 'Religious Pluralism in Indonesia', and 'Muslim Minority in Myanmar'.

New Documents Added to Oxford Islamic Studies Online

New and Updated Titles Added to Oxford Reference Online

Several titles have recently been added or updated, such as the Oxford Dictionary of Reference and Allusion, the Oxford Companion to Consciousness, and the Dictionary of Biomedicine. The titles can be searched collectively in the Oxford Reference Online collection.

I Want You to Know...

Several journals from our library have been digitized through CARLI's Book Digitization Initiative. The journal titles, the Franciscan Herald, the Fortnightly Review, the St. Louis Catholic Historical Review, and the Illinois Catholic Historical Review can be found in the Internet Archive. The journals can be viewed in the original scanned version as well as in PDF format, and the full text of the journals can be searched.

The CARLI consortium has purchased an e-book collection for health and medicine for academic libraries in Illinois. To access the collection, go to SpringerLink's Medicine collection and click on "Books" under Content Type on the right hand side of the screen. Items that are available will have a the check box in front of the item marked in green.

The library has a 30 day trial for Oxford Handbooks Online. The trial includes handbooks in the areas of political science, philosophy, religion and business management. The trial ends January 9th.

BibleWorks is offering a beginning workshop at LSTC on Friday, December 4th from 9a.m. to noon, and an intermediate workshop from 1:30p.m. to 4:30p.m. Registration is available at http://store.bibleworks.com/workshops.html, and directions to the workshop are available at http://www.bibleworks.com/training/details/20091204-LSTC-A.html. The library has added two new databases. MasterFILE Premier is a general interest database that includes reference materials and primary documents, and would be useful for researching current events. Consumer Health Complete is a full text database on health-related topics. Both of these databases are from Ebsco.

The Digital Library of the Catholic Reformation is currently available on a trial basis. This resource includes primary texts from the 16th and 17th centuries in Latin, English, French, Italian, Spanish and German. Both a fully searchable text file as well as scans of the original documents are part of this database. To access this trial, click here.

The library has added the Chicago Manual of Style Online to assist students with constructing proper citations for assignments. You can browse the manual or search the contents, and a Quick Guide is provided to give examples of citations for the most common types of materials. Oxford Reference Online Premium has recently been updated with over 13,000 new entries. Some of the updates include revisions to the Oxford Dictionary of Art and Artists and the Dictionary of Psychology, as well as the addition of new works, such as the Dictionary of Hinduism. The library has two more databases you may want to check out. Oxford Biblical Studies Online is available on a trial basis through April 18th. OBSO includes several Bible translations, commentaries and reference works. This database is available at http://www.ctu.lib.il.us/trialdatabases. The library has also added Camio, a collection of art museum images, to its collection of online resources. Images in the collection are licensed for educational use. The library has a new database available on trial until June 30th. JSTOR's 19th Century British Pamphlets includes over 20,000 pamphlets digitized by major British libraries. The library has added the online version of the Encyclopedia of the Dead Sea Scrolls to its collection. The Encyclopedia offers an interdisciplinary view of the Scrolls, with articles written by over 100 scholars from around the world. The library has added the Encyclopedia Britannica to its collection of online resources.
